Receiving first prize out of all Primary schools in Westmeath came with great jubilation by the school community.
The aim of this award was to showcase the environmental importance of using materials in our community which otherwise would be discarded of. The competition was entered on the basis of re using old pallets and timber, to the extent pupils from 3 class groups spent months during Art and Craft planning their project. Their teachers Anne Stenson, Julie Anne Carroll, Eileen Smyth designed along side their respective class groups 3 detailed projects. Ms. Smyth’s class designed magnificent window boxes re using old pallet materials, followed by painting and designing the boxes in very appealing colours. Ms. Carroll’s class designed zoo animals cut out and painted by the pupils in multi colours, enhancing the entrance to the school. Ms.Stenson’s class designed a magnificent bug hotel and her class created various compartments re using old materials to make it look visually pleasing yet practical for the many bugs and mini beasts around the front garden. The schools resource teacher and co coordinator of the project Kieran Stenson states that “children have amazing talents and this year we were thrilled to win; showcasing the talents of the pupils at St. Tola’s. It is an opportunity for our pupils to learn in a very supportive and imaginative manner. These amazing pupils have been supported by their amazing parents and teachers and have proved that they take the environment seriously; developing practical yet colourful ways to improve and maintain the schools esthetical appearance. The community of Delvin are thrilled to see St. Tola’s win this prestigious award and when passing you will see first hand the creativity and outstanding efforts of the pupils over the past three years in our brand new school garden. It is with gratitude and admiration to all the pupils at St. Tola’s and their hardworking teachers and SNAs for supporting me in this 3 part project and helping to make it an outstanding success for the school. Their parents continue to offer tremendous support, especially to the parents who helped with this project, the school is very grateful”. To celebrate this award, the school plans a very enjoyable barbeque day where parents, friends and pupils of the community will enjoy food, music and good friendship.

Happy Christmas from St. Tola’s

Mass of the Immaculate Conception
8/12/2016

Fr. Heaney celebrated mass for St. Tola’s community alongside Killulagh parishioners in our school hall. Pupils all sung beautiful Christmas carols and played tin whistle pieces. We hear of some parishes with only one or two mass servers. Up to eight mass servers are regularly seen at Sunday mass in Killulagh.
The Mannequin challenge has come to St. Tola’s N.S!
